Dr. Paul Siciliano Receives 2017 Equine Science Award Honors

Dr. Siciliano is the ninth recipient of the award, which has been sponsored by Zinpro Corporation since its inception in 2008

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Aug. 22, 2017 – Dr. Paul Siciliano, professor in the Department of Animal Science at North Carolina State University, is the recipient of the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) and the Equine Science Society (ESS) 2017 Equine Science Award. Sponsored by Zinpro Corporation, the award was presented to Dr. Siciliano by Connie Larson, Ph.D., Research and Nutritional Services ruminant manager – North America, Zinpro Corporation, at the ASAS and the Canadian Society of Animal Science (CSAS) 2017 Annual Meeting and Trade Show in Baltimore, Maryland.

“With more than 50 peer-reviewed publications under his authorship, Dr. Siciliano is widely recognized in the industry as one of the top equine nutritionists,” Dr. Larson says. “This honor is well deserved, as he has made many other valuable contributions to the industry – in addition to his research – that many other people engaged in equine science can attest.” 

At North Carolina State University, Dr. Siciliano teaches courses in equine management and conducts equine nutrition research. He earned his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and his master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Kentucky. He was a faculty member in the Department of Animal Science at Colorado State University from 1996 to 2006. 

Dr. Siciliano has been elected to numerous leadership roles by ESS membership, including president, vice president, program chair for the national meeting, secretary/treasurer, and as a member of the board of directors (2000-2005). He also served as a member of the National Research Council Committee on Nutrient Requirements of Horses (2004-2007). 

The ESS and ASAS Equine Science Award honors outstanding achievements in the areas of Extension, research, teaching or agribusiness in the equine industry. Dr. Siciliano is the ninth recipient of the award, which has been sponsored by Zinpro Corporation since its inception in 2008.
