Zinpro Corporation Awards Scholarship to Minnesota Veterinary Student

Jonathan Durmin, University of Minnesota, Receives the 2016 Zinpro/Schugel Scholarship

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., July 19, 2016 – Zinpro Corporation recently awarded its 2016 Zinpro/Schugel Scholarship to Jonathan Durmin, whose stated goal is to help resolve the “global challenge of food scarcity.” Durmin is pursuing a doctorate in veterinary medicine among the class of 2017 at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. His hometown is Minnetonka, Minnesota.

“With your generosity, I will be more … supported in my pursuit of a career in poultry medicine,” said Durmin, who thanked Zinpro Corporation for selecting him for the award. “This scholarship will help me make essential travel that is key to launching a career in this sector of food animal medicine that is, more than ever, in need of new veterinarians.”

The Zinpro/Schugel Scholarship was established in 2011 to recognize outstanding academic accomplishments by a third-year veterinary student studying food animal medicine at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. “We are pleased to award our 2016 scholarship to Mr. Durmin for his commitment to food animal medicine and his resolve to contribute to a healthier, more sustainable food system,” said Terry Ward, Ph.D., global director, Research and Nutritional Services (RNS), Zinpro Corporation. “Dr. LaVerne Schugel, for which the scholarship was named, showed an enthusiasm for food animal science and animal wellness when working at Zinpro. We see these same attributes in Mr. Durmin and are excited that this type of dedication will continue in the next generation of food animal veterinarians.”

Zinpro Corporation founded the Zinpro/Schugel Scholarship Fund in 2011 shortly after the retirement of long-time employee, Dr. Schugel, a veterinarian and past Zinpro RNS director. Dr. Schugel is a 1957 graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine.
