Dr. Carey Williams Receives 2015 Equine Science Award

Zinpro Corporation Sponsors Award to Recognize Excellence in Equine Extension, Research, Teaching and Agribusiness

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., July 29, 2015 – Dr. Carey Williams, associate director of extension, Equine Science Center, Rutgers University, is the 2015 recipient of the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) and Equine Science Society (ESS) Equine Science Award. Dr. Williams is also a Rutgers University associate professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The award was presented by Connie Larson, Ph.D., ruminant Research and Nutrition Service manager – North America, Zinpro Corporation, at a recent ASAS meeting in Orlando, Florida. 

“We commend Dr. Williams for her exceptional leadership and excellence in equine science,” says Dr. Larson. “Dr. Williams is a leader, both in her individual research that focuses on equine nutrition and physiology and in the multidisciplinary projects that she works on related to environmental best management practices. In addition, she has been incredibly effective in communicating research results through teaching and extension programs to help improve the wellness and performance of equine animals, particularly in the Northeastern and Middle Atlantic regions of the United States.” 

Dr. Williams earned her doctorate degree in animal and poultry sciences (with an emphasis on equine nutrition and exercise physiology) from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She earned a master's degree in equine nutrition, also from Virginia Tech, and a bachelor's degree from Colorado State University. In 2003, she joined Rutgers University as an assistant extension specialist in equine management and became an assistant professor in 2009. 

The Equine Science Award honors outstanding achievements in the areas of extension, research, teaching or agribusiness in the equine industry. Dr. Williams is the seventh recipient of the award, which has been sponsored by Zinpro Corporation since its inception in 2008.
